Rutherford Cross is working in partnership with SCIAF to recruit an International Accountant to join its Finance and Operations team in Glasgow.

Location: Glasgow City Centre, hybrid working
Contract: Permanent, 35 hours per week, Full time - part time considered
Salary: £43,117 to £45,298 plus benefits

SCIAF is the official relief and development agency of the Catholic Church in Scotland. Working with partners across the world, SCIAF supports communities to end poverty, respond to disaster and create lasting change. SCIAF is part of the global Caritas Internationalis network and delivers significant impact with a Glasgow‑based team of around 40 staff.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the International Accountant will ensure strong financial management of SCIAF’s overseas programmes. The role will support donor funded projects, strengthen partner financial capacity and maintain compliance with funder requirements.

This position combines technical accounting, donor reporting, internal audit and financial governance, working closely with programme teams and international partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, consolidation and review of partner budgets, forecasts and periodic financial reports
  • Monitor and analyse grant income and expenditure against budget, providing variance analysis and financial insight across the full project lifecycle
  • Ensure accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting in line with donor and institutional requirements
  • Develop, implement and maintain robust financial policies, procedures and grant management frameworks
  • Support external and internal audits, including the review of partner accounts and delivery of financial training and systems improvement
  • Deliver internal audit, compliance testing and control assurance activities
  • Strengthen financial controls and contribute to fraud prevention, investigation and mitigation
  • Support financial risk assessments, partner due diligence and ongoing financial monitoring

The Person

  • Qualified or part qualified accountant, or equivalent experience
  • Experience managing budgets and donor or institutional reporting
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills
  • Experience of internal audit, governance or charity sector accounting desirable
