Description

Weir Group is a FTSE 100 global engineering business headquartered in Glasgow. The company’s global footprint spans more than 70 countries and employs more than 15,000 people.  With a long and successful industrial history, the company has in recent year’s undergone significant growth both operationally and in terms of its geographical footprint. Weir Group is organised into three sector focused divisions in high growth markets: Minerals, Oil & Gas and Power & Industrial.

Against the backdrop of a challenging oil and gas market in recent months, Weir Group continues to be a strong operator within the sector and out performing its competitors. In 2014, Weir reported “a good underlying performance in fast changing markets” and profits before tax of £409m against revenue of £2.43b. These continue to be impressive results considering market conditions and Weir represents a true global success story headquartered in Scotland.

Weir has invested in new Glasgow city centre headquarters demonstrating their ongoing commitment to Scotland.  This comprises of some 75 professionals including the Board of Directors, Group Heads of tax, treasury, internal audit, Company Secretary/legal team and the Group’s finance team.

The opportunity

Due to internal movement, an opportunity has arisen for an ambitious individual to join the business in the role of Group Internal Auditor. This role reports to the Head of Internal Audit and works in conjunction with a locally-based Senior Group Internal Auditor and a number of divisional internal auditors based in India, US and Africa who supplement the head office team.

The role is to support the provision of Assurance to the Audit Committee, to the Group Executive and to business unit and functional management concerning: the identification, assessment and ownership of business risks; and, the development and operation of effective processes and controls to manage those risks to an acceptable level. Being a diverse global business this will require significant international travel exposing the role holder to a wealth of different cultures, operating units and senior figures within the business.

The Weir Group represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated qualified accountant having displayed good revenue and profit growth in recent years and, as one of Scotland’s few remaining listed companies, exposes the successful individual to the unique environment of a public limited company. In addition, Weir will provide a firm career platform with excellent future opportunities for progression, either locally or internationally, and personal development such as participation in a group-wide international education programme.

The candidate

This role would be ideally suited to a high energy, qualified Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 1 year’s post qualifying experience who has trained with a “Big 4” accounting firm.  It is likely that the individual will be working in external audit and experience of manufacturing/engineering/listed companies would be a distinct advantage. Knowledge of a second language and some exposure to internal audit and/or controls work would also be beneficial (although not mandatory). The ability and desire to travel internationally is essential to this role. However, it should be noted that Weir is a very supportive and flexible employer and typically travel is planned many months in advance.

Remuneration

In addition to a generous salary of £40,000-£45,000 (depending on experience) there is a bonus up to 30% of salary, private medical insurance, holidays of 25 days + 9 statutory and a personal pension plan with employer-matched contributions.
