Financial Controller- SME

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be working on a retained basis with a growing business to appoint a Financial Controller.  This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant with proven experience in the engineering or construction sectors, who is eager to become an FD within the next 5 years.

In order to be successful in this position, the post-holder will need to gain a strong understanding of how the business works, to allow them to confidently challenge commercial and operational counterparts.  This role will play an active part in all board meetings and provide guidance and analysis to support decision-making.

Responsibilities include:

• Production of Monthly Management Accounts with a specific focus on product costing, stock and fixed assets on the groups businesses
• Review and advise on all costings analysis and overhead recovery
• Work closely with Production Management to help them improve productivity and efficiency
• Ensure that tight financial controls are in place across the companies and are adhered to by all relevant staff members
• Take ownership of tax returns
• Prepare work in progress schedules for on-going projects
• Ad hoc accountancy work, preparing budgets, forecasts and assisting the group managing director with the day to day financial controls

Experienced required:

• Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards
• Knowledge of work in progress accounting
• An understanding of the construction/engineering sector is highly desirable
• Knowledge of Sage Accounting Software
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
