Rutherford Cross is delighted to be partnering with a growing, highly profitable, Glasgow based construction business to appoint a Financial Controller. The company has built an excellent track record of delivering successful projects across Scotland. Within the next 5 years the appointed candidate will be expected to step up to take over as Finance Director. The position will be office based.
The Role
This is a varied role which involves all aspects of maintaining financial records and general accounting including:
- Taking ownership for preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Preparing monthly management accounts
- Handling monthly, quarterly and annual closings
- Reconciling control accounts
- Supervision of Accounts Assistant
- Proactively make improvements to processes where possible
- Supervising payment runs
- Computing and submission of VAT, CIS and PAYE tax returns
- Preparing draft balance sheets and profit/loss statements
- Complying with financial policies and regulations
- Supervising payroll
- Using Sage 200
The Candidate
The Financial Controller position requires an accountant who possesses excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The ability to build relationships with and influence internal stakeholders, is a key requirement, as are first class technical accounting skills.
A strong track record of achievement both professionally and academically is required given the nature and requirements of this position.

- Strong analytical skills to support business decision making processes
- Inquisitive & with the ability to learn quickly
- An accountancy qualification is preferrable
Remuneration:
- Salary: £50,000-£60,000
- Holidays: 20 days plus 9 stat, goes up to 25 & 9 after 5 years
- Life Assurance: 4 * salary death in service cover
- Working Hours: 30 – 5.30 Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5.00 Friday
- Pension: 3% employer & 5% staff workplace pension
- Bonus: Discretionary paid twice year June and December
- Professional Fees Paid
