Description

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be partnering with a growing, highly profitable, Glasgow based construction business to appoint a Financial Controller. The company has built an excellent track record of delivering successful projects across Scotland. Within the next 5 years the appointed candidate will be expected to step up to take over as Finance Director. The position will be office based.

The Role

This is a varied role which involves all aspects of maintaining financial records and general accounting including:

  • Taking ownership for preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Preparing monthly management accounts
  • Handling monthly, quarterly and annual closings
  • Reconciling control accounts
  • Supervision of Accounts Assistant
  • Proactively make improvements to processes where possible
  • Supervising payment runs
  • Computing and submission of VAT, CIS and PAYE tax returns
  • Preparing draft balance sheets and profit/loss statements
  • Complying with financial policies and regulations
  • Supervising payroll
  • Using Sage 200

The Candidate

The Financial Controller position requires an accountant who possesses excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The ability to build relationships with and influence internal stakeholders, is a key requirement, as are first class technical accounting skills.

A strong track record of achievement both professionally and academically is required given the nature and requirements of this position.

  • Strong technical accounting skills with great attention to detail
  • Demonstrable ability to maintain robust financial control environment and drive process improvement/efficiency
  • An approachable manner, working as part of a team working to achieve companywide objectives
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, managing communications within the finance team and across all departments in the business
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills to support business decision making processes
  • Inquisitive & with the ability to learn quickly
  • An accountancy qualification is preferrable

Remuneration:

  • Salary: £50,000-£60,000
  • Holidays: 20 days plus 9 stat, goes up to 25 & 9 after 5 years
  • Life Assurance: 4 * salary death in service cover
  • Working Hours: 30 – 5.30 Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5.00 Friday
  • Pension: 3% employer & 5% staff workplace pension
  • Bonus: Discretionary paid twice year June and December
  • Professional Fees Paid
