The Financial Controller role is primarily associated with the management of all financial and accounting activities across the Gold Brothers business and overseeing the finance department staff in day-to-day operations.

The role is a senior management role and is essential in ensuring that the business is operating effectively and efficiently. The role is also key to ensuring the monitoring of internal controls and financial risk management whilst working with other areas of the business on a regular basis to embed finance methodology into the operations of the business and assist in strategic decision making.

The Financial Controller will be expected to be a strong team player with a proven track record of delivering results all areas of finance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for the financial oversight, controls and reporting of Gold Brothers. It will work closely with the Senior Management team to develop the business and set it up for success ensuring that the systems, processes and reporting are in place for future growth. The role will require working across multiple business functions as well as managing external stakeholders.

• Management and mentoring of the finance team
• Oversight and regular review of finance processes and control environment
• Monthly accounts preparation into set of management accounts
• Detailed review, understanding and challenge of the issues and factors affecting the performance, of the monthly and year to date Group performance to prior year and Financial Plan
• Preparation of monthly management accounts which are presented to non-financial business leaders at the management meeting and Board meetings
• Understand, challenge and prepare commentary for monthly finance reports / Board packs
• Production of monthly financial information for the Group
• Quarterly bank covenant reporting
• Continually revisit the form and content of all reports produced to improve quality, effectiveness, consistency and relevance
• Produce short term cash and profit forecasts for Group from the pipeline, order book and the order intake, liaising with the sales and operational teams
• Oversee production of rolling monthly Group cashflow projections and funding requirements
• Manage cashflow, including the oversight of credit control and currency transactions

Product & margin analysis, working capital, cost base and benchmarking
• Production of the annual Budget / Financial plan and any reforecasts throughout the year
• Work with the finance team and other parts of the business to produce the required model and Board packs
• Prepare timely, accurate and appropriate analysis for the management team
• Liaise with the management team to explain / understand business issues, initiatives and trends
• Ensure adherence to accounting standards with good corporate governance standards
maintained at all times
• Full working knowledge of the tax issues across the business
• Supervision of the monthly VAT return process
• Management of the year-end tax compliance process, working with the external tax advisors

The Financial Controller position requires a professionally qualified accountant who possesses excellent technical and management accounting skills, strong systems knowledge and previous team management experience. It is likely that the individual has trained in a professional services firm, but has also operated within commercial organisations, ideally in a small / medium, high growth, dynamic business environment.

It is critical that the Financial Controller can effectively support the senior management team, while consistently meeting the needs of key stakeholders both within and external to the business. Undoubtedly, this is a key appointment for Gold Brothers and the successful individual will play a key role in shaping the finance function over time.

Knowledge, Skills and Core Competencies Required:
• CA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA qualified accountant with minimum 7 years PQE
• Although not essential, any experience within retail will be highly desirable
• Highly professional with an ability to adopt a Partnership approach and build a strong rapport with internal and external stakeholders
• Have a track record of working effectively in senior teams and influencing decisions
• The ability to be flexible and adapt at pace in a dynamic organisation
• Strong commercial acumen, resilience, confidence and willingness to excel with a focus on continuous improvement
• Have strong leadership skills with a demonstrable track record of teamwork, collaboration and developing high performing teams
• The gravitas, experience, and ability to challenge the status quo and be a catalyst for change
• Experience in working with a Board, building their confidence in the reporting, financial models, and processes / controls
• Culturally, candidates should feel comfortable operating in an informal environment and demonstrate the willingness to roll their sleeves up
• Highly numerate with strong analytical skills
• Resilient, remains calm and effective under pressure
• A proactive self-starter
