Description
The Scottish Salmon Company are an independent and fully integrated salmon farming business wholly operating in Scotland. Headquartered in central Edinburgh, they breed, farm and process salmon in the Western Highlands and Islands and sell around 25,000 tonnes of premium Scottish salmon a year to over 25 countries around the world. The company employs over 500 staff in 60 Freshwater, Marine and Processing facilities and is passionately committed to the environmental, cultural and economic sustainability of rural Scotland.
The Scottish Salmon Company achieved record revenues in excess of £150m in 2017, nearly 50% better than the previous record of £110m in 2016, now exports over half of production to key markets across the globe from North America to the Far East. The business also achieved healthy profits with EBIT in the region on £30m. The company is incorporated in Jersey and listed on the Norwegian stock exchange.
The Opportunity
The Scottish Salmon Company is seeking a Group Financial Controller to support the Chief Financial Officer and lead the Group Finance Team. As a senior member of the finance team, the Group Financial Controller is responsible for all external reporting for Scottish Salmon PLC (a Jersey Company, listed in Norway) and its subsidiaries (UK), including corporate governance and other reporting required under listing rules.
In addition to providing expertise in technical accounting, taxation and risk mitigation, the role will support the CFO on a number of strategic initiatives including finance system optimisation and capital expenditure review.
The Individual
The Group Financial Controller position requires a professionally qualified accountant who possesses excellent technical accounting skills, people leadership experience and a firm understanding of the reporting and stakeholder management requirements in a listed company.
It is likely the individual has trained in a professional services firm, ideally one of the “Big 4”, and has operated in a similar role within a commercial environment. However, applications are also welcomed from individuals making their first move from a relevant level straight from the profession (i.e. Senior Manager and Director). Previous experience of the salmon industry is not required, but exposure to other complex listed entities would be highly advantageous.
The position will suit an individual currently operating at Group Financial Controller level though the business is delighted to consider candidates at a slightly more junior level who would consider this as being a “step-up” role. Applicants will be comfortable working in a demanding environment and can develop, implement and manage effective changes to systems and processes across the business. Certainly, it is essential that they can provide significant support to the CFO and have immediate credibility in presenting at Board level.
What’s on offer:
The position offers a highly competitive financial package to attract the right individual, including an excellent base salary, car allowance, pension and family healthcare.
