Rutherford Cross Annual Charity Football Tournament Raises £5,865 for Sense Scotland

On Friday the 9th of June, Rutherford Cross was delighted to hold our 5th annual charity football tournament raising funds for Sense Scotland. The games were hard-fought in the baking heat and we were relieved and a little surprised that no participants required any medical attention as result of the grueling weather conditions and mixed fitness levels!…

This year’s participants were:

For the second year in succession, Rutherford Cross made it out the group stages with 2 wins and a defeat, before being narrowly beaten by the eventual winners (we are taking this as us being the second best team in the tournament). We were treated to some excellent finishing from Mr Humble (Harry Young);  tough tackling from Fraser Burnett, ruffling a few feathers with the opposition; endless running from Tom Watson, despite half his toe hanging off; fine passing from the relaxed Harry Thomson; Jonny Donnelly conducting play from the back; astounding cat-like saves from Mark Lewis; and some cameo flashes of genius from Derek Lauder.

Congratulations to the winners, Leyton, who defeated the reigning champions from the previous 2 years – Loganair – in the final. This year, across all participating teams we were able to raise an impressive £5,865 for Sense Scotland, which will go towards providing social care support for people with complex and sensory disabilities, and their families. On behalf of Sense Scotland, we are very grateful to all who donated.

As well as raising money for charity, the tournament is a great opportunity for informal team bonding and some healthy competition with other finance professionals. Every year we have really positive feedback on the event, and many teams end up staying on at the bar to socialise with their colleagues and to get to know people from the other businesses.

We are very grateful to all who took part and to Powerleague for their excellent hospitality. We are already looking forward to next year’s event, and who knows, maybe we’ll be showing a Scotland game at next year’s Euros in the bar afterwards!
