On Wednesday 5th November, Rutherford Cross Consultant Ben Jones was delighted to launch our brand-new event series ‘Tax Talks’, an exclusive event series for tax professionals in Scotland across practice and industry and representing a wide range of sectors.
We swapped the fireworks for the fabulous and world-famous hospitality of Gleneagles Townhouse and as we were treated to delicious canapés and drinks, the room buzzed with engaging conversations, thoughtful opinions and insights to remember, remember…
This event series was born out of three things. The first is our purpose at Livingston James Group which is: “To advise and support people and organisations to realise their potential so that together we can impact lives and communities for the better”. We take many approaches to achieve that purpose, and these event series are some of the most effective.
As we hurtle towards an impending world of AI and difficulty deciding what is real and what is fake, we intend to double down on human interaction, because that is very real. It’s a handshake, a glass of wine in hand, laughter and the feeling of belonging. You might have heard of some of our other fantastic events: ‘Network of Tomorrow‘, ‘No Diversity No Deal‘, ‘Future Finance Leaders‘, ‘Planning Your Career Journey‘, and now Ben’s addition of ‘Tax Talks‘!
The second came from conversations with people in tax. Engaging in these conversations everyday revealed that there were very few exclusive events for tax professionals in Scotland. It is so important that the community has a space to network, connect with others, gain perspective on their situation, insights into other markets and build friendships. The opportunities and impact of this may not yet be fully known, but it all begins by coming together in the same room. Some ideas, challenges, opinions and suggestions only emerge in these settings.
And last but not least, we want these events to be fun! While there is certainly a place for more serious, formal events, there is also great value in events that are engaging, lively and gives people the chance to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
There are no rules or limits to what this event series looks like and it will grow and evolve over time.
We are very excited about the future of Tax Talks and we believe that it can bring the community together, because the same thing has occurred with other event series. It starts with a conversation and idea and it grows into something pretty amazing which we are certain this will.
The next Tax Talks will be held in Glasgow early 2026, please reach out to [email protected] for more information and to ensure you don’t miss out on an exclusive invite.
