Navigating New Terrain – CFOs as CEOs: Jo Dow, Business Stream – Rutherford Cross

Following the success of our event in Glasgow back in May, Rutherford Cross welcomed back Jo Dow, Chief Executive Officer of Business Stream, to speak at the latest CFO to CEO boardroom lunch which explored the career options that exist beyond the role of CFO, including Non-Executive Director and Trustee positions.

This lunch was held in the wonderful new AAB offices on George Street in Edinburgh and kindly hosted by Lyn Calder, Managing Partner (Edinburgh). We were joined by a number of Scotland’s leading CFOs and Finance Directors from across a wide range of businesses for what was another entertaining and informative session.

The conversation followed similar themes from the Glasgow lunch, but with a few additional and interesting topics, including how to best deliver your vision for purpose and values within an organisation and views on implementing a robust ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) framework. On ESG, there was a debate ranging across putting people and communities before profit, working towards carbon neutrality and the provision of modern apprenticeships for school leavers. For Jo, this is an area of particular focus given Business Stream’s commitment to making a positive difference to their customers, their people, the environment and their local communities. For most of the attendees, the common challenge centred on moving the ESG agenda from being an admirable concept into a commercially viable solution, especially within smaller organisations where resources are tighter and knowledge of the framework is often lacking.

For a full synopsis of the topics covered, please review the last full report from the Glasgow lunch.
