Rutherford Cross are pleased to be assisting this leading UK infrastructure company in the search for a VAT Specialist. Working as part of a shared service centre tax team supporting the Group function the successful candidate with perform the following key responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities are as follows:

  • To prepare and submit the group’s 2 monthly VAT returns, month end accounting and reconciliation reports and supplementary analyses
  • To provide VAT and other indirect tax advisory support to the Group Tax Team as well as to the wider business
  • To provide ad-hoc training to internal customers and support the group team in relation to VAT and other indirect tax matters
  • Take the initiative in relation to tax projects, both to identify opportunities and ensure compliance with processes (e.g. implementation of greenbelt initiatives)
  • Through continuous improvement ensure the VAT processes are efficient and delivered in a right first time manner
  • To assist in the preparation of other ad-hoc tax reporting including the group’s PAYE Settlement Agreement
  • Active participation in cross functional projects
  • This role represents an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record in VAT compliance gained in professional services or another in-house team.

Previous experience required:

  • Qualified/ Part qualified tax professional (CTA and /or ATT) or relevant HMRC background, with strong tax technical experience
  • Experience of preparing VAT returns essential
  • Experience of other indirect taxes advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills, with ability to plan, prioritise and work to deadlines
  • Professional in approach and dedicated to high standards, with excellent attention to detail and right first time mentality
  • Previous experience of Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE advantageous
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work as part of a team are essential
  • The post requires an ability to work under pressure yet still provide exemplary customer service
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral are essential
