Background to the Opportunity

The opportunity has arisen for a Tax Analyst to join our client’s Tax team on a permanent basis.

Our client is in the Education sector.

 

The Role

Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Indirect taxation –

  • To support the VAT Manager in the preparation of all relevant VAT returns by the analysis of data, along with EC Sales List returns and Intrastat declarations for the company and its’ subsidiaries;
  • To ensure the accurate and timely processing in the finance system of indirect tax journals and the reconciliation of related balance sheet control accounts;
  • To ensure that the company and its’ subsidiaries have made all relevant tax payments to the appropriate Tax Authorities in accordance with the agreed dates;
  • To ensure that the tax settings on the company’s finance system are maintained in compliance with agreed methods and procedures;
  • To ensure effective review and oversight of the Group’s indirect tax compliance obligations in respect of its overseas operations in China and Singapore;
  • To manage operational indirect tax queries from within the Group.

 

Corporate taxation –

  • To provide draft Corporation Tax provisions for the company’s subsidiary company financial statements;
  • To complete annual Corporation Tax data packs, along with supporting analyses, for both the company and its’ subsidiary companies, for onward submission to the Group’s tax advisors;
  • To review of the draft Corporation Tax computations prepared by the Group’s tax advisors;
  • To ensure the accurate and timely processing in the finance system of corporate tax journals and the reconciliation of related balance sheet control accounts;
  • To ensure that the company and its’ subsidiaries have made all relevant tax payments to the appropriate Tax Authorities in accordance with the agreed dates;
  • To provide recommendations as to operational tax strategies for each corporate entity on matters such as the utilisation of tax losses and making Gift Aid payments;
  • To review and provide oversight of the Group’s corporate tax activities in its overseas operations in China and Singapore;
  • To manage corporate tax queries from within the Group

 

Overseas taxation –

  • To review of the draft personal tax computations and other related returns prepared by the Group’s tax advisors and ensuring their submission in accordance with agreed dates;
  • To ensure the accurate and timely processing in the finance system of overseas tax journals and the reconciliation of related balance sheet control accounts;
  • To ensure that the company and its’ subsidiaries have made all relevant tax payments to the appropriate Tax Authorities in accordance with the agreed dates;
  • To manage overseas tax queries from within the Group

 

Tax advisory services –

  • To support the VAT Manager in the management of key external relationships [HMRC, tax advisors and auditors], dealing with enquiries, disclosures and other correspondence;
  • To assist in the development and provision of in-house tax training resources to Group employees;
  • To provide, together with the VAT Manager, professional tax advice to the Group on its’ business development and change projects, acting to ensure while they are remain within the compliance framework there is due consideration being given to timely and effective tax planning.

 

The Candidate

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience or hold a relevant tax professional qualification (ie. CTA qualified)
  • Understanding of HMRC regulations relating to Corporate Tax and VAT
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to get stuck in
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint
