Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Aberdeen, Dana Petroleum Limited is an exploration and production company, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Korea National Oil Corporation, having been acquired in 2010. Dana has 38 production assets, producing 40,416 barrels of oil and gas per day on average. 75% of the operations are currently in the North Sea.

The Role
The Tax department at Dana Petroleum, which is accountable for compliance and advisory work across all taxes for the organization, is recruiting to bring it to a three-person strong team based in the Aberdeen office.
The team, led by Nicola Hyland, is currently looking for a Tax Advisor. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a first class, qualified or part-qualified, tax or finance professional from an accounting firm, or from another industry, with the desire to progress their career within tax.

Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Tax Manager, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a small and busy team that has responsibility for the following:
Strategic:
- Implementation of the Group’s taxation strategy
- Help establish and formalise taxation processes and controls
- Monitor UK and overseas tax affairs
- Manage the UK and overseas effective tax rates
Relationships:
- Maintain relationships with auditors and professional advisors
- Provide support to the Finance, Legal, Commercial and Business functions in relation to material tax matters
- Provide support to Dana shareholders, KNOC as required
- Keep pace with legislative developments and assist in the representation of Dana’s views to Government bodies as appropriate
- Maintain relationships with UK tax authorities as appropriate
- Attend and Represent Dana at industry body meetings, for example UKOITC / OTAC
Tax Provisioning:
- Prepare/Review monthly CT Effective Tax Rate calculation
- Prepare/Review tax monthly reforecasting
- Prepare/Review of the UK PRT and CT quarterly true up provisions
- Review monthly tax provision submissions from overseas
- Prepare statutory accounts tax provisions
- Prepare UK tax forecasting calculations for the Planning process
- Liaise with the Group’s auditors on taxation matters
- Assist with Group budgeting and forecasting from a tax perspective
Tax Compliance:
- Complete UK corporate and PRT tax returns
- Calculate UK tax payments / refunds and interest
- Complete monthly UK VAT return and management of payments / repayments
- Support in relation to the management of relevant tax authority enquiries
- Prepare and submit the annual Schedule 23 return
- Prepare and submit the annual EITI report
- Prepare and file the EU Accounting Directive Extractive report
Tax Advisory:
- Tax optimisation of group financing and inter-company transactions
- Provide advice in respect of commercial documents
- Identify and implement UK tax planning strategies
- Review and monitor underlying financial systems, and identify improvements required to ensure the integrity of tax returns
- Identify and/or liaise with appropriate external advisors and agreement of appropriate fee arrangements
- Provide support to business in relation to strategic projects (e.g., acquisitions and divestments, commercial structuring of transactions, etc)
- Support economics, business and planning teams in relation to modelling of UK taxes
Customs:
- Review the monthly bills of discharge and carrying out the monthly checks
- Actively work with the external customs agent / freight forwarder and Supply Chain / inventory management teams to monitor goods imported under our end-use authorisation, ensuring that the relevant requirements are met
- Support in relation to relevant tax authority enquiries

- Familiarise with the One Dana Management System and its meaning for day- to-day work
- Familiarise with the work and be aware of all associated risks for People, the Environment, Assets and Reputation (PEAR)
- Report any incident, near miss, hazards (unsafe acts/situations) and improvement suggestions
- Know their roles and responsibilities
- Actively participate in any job or HSEQ training or instruction by or on behalf of Dana Petroleum
- Use all provided means as intended and according to their purpose
The Individual
Candidate Requirements:
The Tax Advisor role requires a strong finance professional, ideally with experience in corporate tax, who can work autonomously and with confidence to establish credibility from internal stakeholders. Experience in corporate tax is desirable but not essential for this role.
You will have:
- Ideally a professional qualification (ICAS, ACCA or CIMA) or studying towards a professional qualification, or experience in a finance role
- Ideally a strong corporate tax background, or the desire to work in a tax focused role within industry
- Commercial aptitude
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Some knowledge of indirect tax (customs and VAT) is preferable but not essential
Remuneration
Basic Salary: £Competitive and commensurate with experience
Company Pension: 10% base salary employer contribution per annum plus Company matching of additional personal pension contributions up to maximum of 5%
Holiday Entitlement: 25 days plus 8 public holidays (4 of which are fixed)
Bonus: Eligibility for inclusion in the Company annual bonus scheme

Working Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Thursday 8.30am – 5.30pm with one hour for lunch, Friday 8.30am – 3.00pm. Opportunity to opt into the half day Friday scheme, where individuals can request to increase their working time by 15 minutes Monday to Thursday to allow for a 1pm Friday finish
Flexible Working: Dana operate a hybrid working model, where individuals can choose to split their working time between the office and home on a 60%/40% basis respectively
