Rutherford Cross is delighted to be engaged by our global client in the Financial Services sector to help them identify their new Operational Risk Director based in Glasgow city centre. This will report directly to the MD and be a key leader in the senior operational risk team.

Leading the Private Banking Operational Risk function this is a unique opportunity to help shape the risk appetite for this division and help mature the risk framework of the business, facing off to key senior stakeholders.

The primary responsibility of this role entails leading a team of operational risk professionals to deliver second line oversight of the private banking divisions operational risks. In order to effectively liaise with senior stakeholders, it is essential that you have first class communication skills with the gravitas to manage situations where the optimal outcome in line with risk policies may not be the preferred commercial outcome.

Key Accountabilities:

• Senior Leadership of the Private Banking Operational Risk team. Driving forward the outputs delivered by the team and setting objectives aligned with the overall Ops Risk strategy of the Business
• Business Partnering with key stakeholders to make informed strategic decisions providing risk and governance insights through analysis and understanding of the business risk framework
• Providing overall direction for the Risk and Control profile of the Private Banking division and carrying out effective reviews and challenges for the enterprise and operational risk management processes and deliverables
• Ensuring senior thought leadership on the risk management framework and providing education to ‘non risk’ senior stakeholders to effectively deliver business decision making

The ideal candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate a professional history of senior operational risk management leadership and a be confident in influencing senior stakeholders including C-suite executives.

Experience or exposure to the Private Banking sector is highly desirable. Candidates with a background in Commercial Banking or Investment Management will also be strongly considered. You will previously have built out operational risk frameworks within a large financial services organisation. A strong track record of delivering compliance and risk management solutions with an understanding of the commercial outcomes of the strategic decisions made is also desirable.
