THE ORGANISATION
We are delighted to be working with a growing business in the heart of Edinburgh. Despite only being in its' infancy, this business has significant capex and opex budgets and has ambitious growth plans which it will achieve largely through acquisition.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking to appoint a Financial Controller who will implement the processes and procedures that will ensure a robust environment as the business continues to grow. You will be responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, both internal and external, and will be pivotal in ensuring that finance builds relationships with the wider business to help drive decision making. A large aspect of this role involves the development and management of a team of six employees.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Financial Controller will take responsibility for the delivery of accurate and high quality financial information and will be a key senior member of the finance function.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will involve:
Reporting
- Manage all aspects of group statutory accounting in accordance with IFRS / FRS101, including the group consolidation of all Group companies
- Supervise the preparation of financial statements to meet corporate accounting requirements
- Maintain all records, registers and books of accounts covering all revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities
- Develop and provide management reporting for the Executive team
- Support the CFO in a wide range of activities
- Ensure all statutory tax obligations are met
- Be proactively involved in the preparation of budgets for the organisation, including the annual planning process
- Manage all inter-company accounting requirements
Controls & Risks
- Review and develop financial controls, policies and processes, ensuring a robust environment as the business continues to grow, including the mitigation of business risks
- Champion the governance agenda and lead in establishing and maintaining best practice accounting processes and controls across the group
- Assist with the management and execution of the periodic company risk assessment
Stakeholders
- Key contact for external advisors including auditors, tax advisors, etc.
- Manage internal stakeholders, including members of the executive team
THE INDIVIDUAL
This Financial Controller position requires a professionally qualified accountant who possesses excellent technical accounting skills and previous management experience. It is likely that the individual has trained in a professional services firm, but has also operated within commercial organisations post-qualification.
- Professionally qualified with X+ years’ overall experience
- Proven ability to deliver high quality financial statements in accordance with IFRS / FRS101
- Excellent technical knowledge of statutory accounting, taxation and compliance
- Experience in consolidation and inter-company accounting
- Experience in implementing robust financial controls, processes and procedures
- Excellent staff management and development skills
- Good IT skills, especially in relation to Microsoft applications and Excel in particular
- Confident communicator at every level, with strong inter-personal skills
- Self-motivated and organised
- Capacity to perform at a high level in a fast-paced multi-tasking, dynamic environment
