Description

Rutherford Cross is working with a well-respected Public Sector Organisation to recruit a Financial Accountant based in Glasgow, with offices in the city centre. The successful post holder will be responsible for the preparation of the financial statements and co-ordination of the year-end audit for the subsidiary companies and assist the Financial Reporting Manager in delivering financial compliance across the organisation.

On offer is a salary of up to £44k (depending on experience) and an exceptional benefits package including 41 days annual leave and 23% employer contribution pension. Ideally, we are looking to speak with newly or recently qualified accountants (CA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) who have strong up to date knowledge of the technical accounting environment in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality financial accounting specialist support across the Group, with particular emphasis on the Group’s subsidiary entities
  • Main point of contact for external audit matters relating to the subsidiary companies
  • Responsible for the preparation of the annual financial statements for all the Group’s subsidiary entities
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of the audit in accordance with the agreed timetable seeking support from the Financial Reporting Manager as required
  • Act as the finance lead on all matters relating to the Group’s subsidiary entities
  • Responsible for running the month-end journals to ensure all intercompany balances are recorded accurately in both the University and the Subsidiary company
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner for review by the Financial Reporting Manager
  • Prepare month-end bank reconciliations
  • Conduct and present detailed analysis and recommendations to support the Financial Reporting Manager in the maintenance of the fixed asset module
  • Complete assigned month-end tasks to a high standard in accordance with the month-end timetable
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations as required for review by the Financial Reporting Manager
  • Work with the Financial Reporting Manager to ensure that all updates to accounting standards and guidance are correctly and accurately reflected in the financial statements
  • Other ad hoc projects as required

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ICAS / ACCA / CIMA)
  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles
  • Strong up to date knowledge of the technical accounting environment in the UK
  • Thorough knowledge of best practice within the Financial Reporting area
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
