Position Overview

The responsbility of the Finance Manager will be to provide financial support and scrutiny to the Muirhall Warehousing site whilst ensuring all aspects of financial management, reporting and compliance across the business are completed in a timeous and professional manner; including (but not limited to) monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets, year-end financial statements, financial systems, taxation, insurance, cash flow management, capital expenditure, payroll, banking, payments/receivables and procurement. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively as a member of the Muirhall Leadership Team.

Responsibilities and Main Accountabilities

  • Maintain an awareness of the regulatory and Company standards that apply to the role such as HMRC, COMAH and H&S. COMAH specific - Understand and act in accordance with the Site Emergency Response Plan in the event of an evacuation or major incident, and regularly participate in COMAH improvement activity
  • Support the Muirhall warehousing site on a day-to-day basis in all aspects of financial compliance, reporting and interrogation of data. Provide a link between the Muirhall site and the central Finance Team. Actively seek improvements for the Muirhall business in all aspects of the work being carried out. Understand all and adapt site KPIs as appropriate
  • To be a member of and attend Muirhall Leadership Team (MLT) meetings, actively report and contribute on financial matters both to the Site Team and also the Core Finance Team. Support and challenge colleagues on the MLT regarding all aspects of operations for the site with a particular emphasis on financial matters
  • Communicate and interpret financial data to non-financial managers and budget holders, liaising closely when required to put finances and accounts in context. Respond to ad-hoc enquiries as well as carrying out feasibility studies and budget analysis where required
  • Ensure full understanding of monthly management accounts for the site and disseminate information/follow-up on queries as appropriate. Track results against annual budget/latest reforecast and report variances thereon
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of the annual budget for site in a timeous manner liaising with all appropriate personnel e.g. budget holders and customer service team. Further, to produce periodic reforecasts for revised full-year out turn
  • Constantly maintain a schedule of opportunities and risks, and highlight these to the MLT and Finance Director in a timely manner
  • Support the site, and at times the wider company, with regards to procurement ensuring that regular tender exercises are undertaken and the best value is achieved
  • Support Muirhall site with capital expenditure requests, analyse and appraise all requests and ensure appropriate diligence is applied prior to submission for approval
  • Support the wider operation of the core Finance Team as directed by the Finance Director and Finance Controller. This includes, but is not limited to, companywide issues such as cash-flow management, taxation, payroll, finance systems, payments/receipts, procurement, insurance, and statutory reporting
  • Provide line management to members of the core Finance Team as may be directed by the Finance Director e.g. payroll, ledgers or management accountants
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your contractual role

Background

A degree-qualified accountant with experience supporting leadership teams, preferably in an FMCG, warehousing or logistics environment. Passionate about operating proactively in partnership with the wider business to promote financial awareness and are confident at communicating financial information to non financial individuals.

Technical Experience

  • Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of similar accreditation (CA, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
  • Strong IT skills, with demonstrable experience with MS Office, Word and Excel
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to input and interpret complex data using IT systems
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting and preparation of management accounts
  • Sound understanding of financial trends, both within and out with the Company
  • Formal Management Qualification and/or experience of management

Finance

  • Extensive understanding of financial trends, both within and out with the Company
  • Solid knowledge of all relevant statutory legislation and regulations
  • Ability to implement and monitor highly effective financial controls

Leadership

  • Demonstrable experience in managing, leading and motivating teams
  • Proven ability to prioritise responsibilities for themselves and the teams they become part of when under pressure

Salary: Salary is competitive in line with experience

Pension: Access to a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan. The employer contribution is up to 15% of basic salary (based on an employee contribution of 10%), with flexibility for further employee contribution

Holidays: 34 days per annum (including statutory holidays)
