The Club has been in positive health in recent years in terms of on pitch performance, ongoing investment in the infrastructure and the negotiation of positive commercial deals. This has enabled the club to set ambitious targets for the future, such as achieving European football, while strengthening important links with the local community.
The Opportunity
Hibernian Football Club is seeking a Finance Director to join the Board and be an integral part of the running of the club. Based in Leith, Edinburgh, the appointed individual will be a direct support to the Chief Executive and is a key hire to the ongoing success of the club during this period of significant investment. The Finance Director will lead on all aspects of financial management and will be a key member of a small executive team leading the business.

The Individual
The Finance Director position requires a professionally qualified accountant who possesses excellent technical, operational and commercial finance skills. The role requires a range of financial management skills, along with the ability to add value into areas such as player and commercial contract negotiations, technology and insurance. The individual should be strategically focused but also very “hands-on” to ensure the accurate delivery of financial and other information.
It is highly likely the individual will have operated within a commercial organisation, ideally within a high growth SME environment with complex operations and various revenue streams. Previous experience in a football club or in another sports environment would be advantageous or in related sectors such as retail, facilities management or hospitality would be helpful.
The club is in a period of significant change and investment and have geared up accordingly so it is imperative the appointed candidate is an ambitious and driven individual with the ability to critically assess “risk versus opportunity” to ensure the best possible commercial outcome for the club and its supporters.
The position will suit an individual currently operating at Finance Director level though the business is delighted to consider exceptional candidates at a slightly more junior level who would consider this as being a “step-up” role. Applicants will be comfortable working in a demanding environment and can develop, implement and manage effective changes across the business. Certainly, it is essential that they can provide significant support to the CEO and have immediate credibility in presenting at Board level.
