Rutherford Cross is currently exclusively engaged on a Finance Director role with a leading transport business based in Aberdeen.
The Opportunity
The Finance Director will focus on building strong and effective working relationships with customers and stakeholders. This is a strategic dynamic role with exposure to commercial contract negotiations at a senior level.
The Role
The role reports into the Finance Director (Transport) based in London and supports the contract Managing Director in Aberdeen.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Working with the team to shape the strategy and development of the contract by providing the right level of challenge, analysis and thought leadership.
- Building sound working relationships with the contract MD and Management team, key client contacts & customers, and suppliers of staff, fuel and onshore services.
- Providing leadership on finance activities undertaken across the contract.
- Undertaking senior level contract negotiations where appropriate and ensuring contractual arrangements with customers, suppliers and partners to create long term value for the business, drawing upon commercial expertise as required.
- Contributing to the performance of the business unit in delivering the financial targets including growth, profit, cash, budgets and resource utilisation; making recommendations for improvement and remedial action.
- Ensuring appropriate financial accounting policies and controls are in place, taking responsibility for ensuring successful external audit outcomes and ensuring the business unit operates in line with the Management System.
- Managing and developing two direct reports.
Skills Required:
- Significant experience within finance environment with exposure to commercial transactions and operations
- Experience of running a large service based contract is highly desirable
- Professionally qualified accountant (e.g. CA, ACCA, ACMA) with appropriate post qualification experience
- Highly developed negotiation skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent commercial understanding and insight
- Ability to work with and influence other departments (non-financial)
- Strong organisation skills with structured and systematic approach to delivering solutions
- Experience of managing a team of people
- Structured and clear presentation of financial information and analysis
- Technical knowledge and strong process/control skills
The Candidate:
- Experience in leading a team and will have responsibility for 2 direct reports and a team of 3 in total.
- Experience of running a large service based contract is highly desirable, whilst a background of working with stakeholders from the Marine and/or Transport sector would be advantageous.
- To succeed in this role the candidate will be a qualified accountant with exceptional leadership qualities and commercial acumen. It is essential that the Finance Director is able to demonstrate a high level of negotiation skills, a drive for outstanding customer service and the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in a high performance culture.
Remuneration:
In addition to a salary of £95,000- £100,000 per annum (depending on experience) there are a number of benefits including a generous pension, bonus and private healthcare.
