Description

Smarter Grid Solutions Ltd (SGS) is a growing software and technology implementation company headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland. SGS specialises in enterprise management software for power grids and energy markets. Its products enable the integration and optimisation of distributed, clean, and flexible energy assets within modern energy systems. 

The Finance Director will lead a small, highly experienced team, requiring strong people management skills and high emotional intelligence. The ideal candidate will be a natural relationship builder, capable of fostering collaboration and trust across the business. A solid technical foundation and a strong focus on compliance are essential, ensuring robust processes and controls that provide confidence to the wider organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for all the financial affairs of the company
  • Financing strategy formulation and implementation (working closely with the General Manager)
  • Management accounting
  • Preparation of annual accounts including interaction with the company auditors and audit committee
  • Tax planning
  • Compliance with tax and statutory filing requirements
  • Cost control
  • Budgeting and business planning
  • Responsible for the oversight of monthly closing and financial reporting
  • Working closely with the management team to generate and implement the company operating plan including continuous financial oversight
  • Board meeting reporting
  • Information preparation and participation
  • Parent company reporting
  • Monthly information provision
  • Preparation of annual income statement (forecast) and support the GM in completion of presentation materials
  • Completion of annual information requests as required
  • Working collaboratively with the rest of the Senior Management team to monitor and coordinate operational activities and to implement strategic initiatives
  • Managing a small team of management accountants
  • Leading compliance and ethics programmes

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Professionally qualified, commercially astute experienced accountant, who is articulate, dynamic, insightful and an influential leader
  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • A consistent achiever who can demonstrate success in a similar role
  • Strong technical knowledge, up to date with required accounting standards and any changes required as well as able to ensure robust compliance in an organisation
  • Experience (and interest) in financial management of technology/software development businesses is beneficial
  • Experience of working in a overseas subsidiary of a multi-national corporate and experience of interacting with corporate stakeholders (such as Group finance, Group senior management) is beneficial
