The Role

Chiene + Tait are looking to bolster their Corporate Tax team at an exciting time for the firm with the addition of a Corporate Tax Assistant Manager. This role has arisen as the result of continued growth and new client wins.  The opportunity provides an excellent prospect to join a supportive and ambitious team with a fantastic and varied client portfolio, and with a genuinely flexible and dynamic working environment.

As mentioned above, Chiene + Tait have offices across Scotland. This opportunity is also available to professionals who would like to work mainly remotely who are either living in Scotland or in the wider UK. There is a requirement to have an in person catch up with your team once a month, and to attend in person client meetings as necessary.

The main duties at Assistant Manager level include:

  • Responsibility for delivery of exceptional client care
  • Overseeing a portfolio of clients to deliver work according to budget and deadlines
  • Reviewing corporation tax compliance work, tax accounting figures & disclosures, and assisting junior members with technical queries
  • Providing ad hoc tax advice and identifying opportunities for clients
  • Involvement with technical tax advice on specialist advisory projects. Examples of recent advisory projects undertaken include demergers, refinancing, restructuring, due diligence, capital allowance reports, overseas tax matters, property transactions, amongst others
  • Coaching and developing junior members of staff, including responsibility for appraisals, and facilitating objective setting
  • Working with partners, building client relationships and assisting in business development activities
  • Liaising with colleagues across the firm to provide a co-ordinated service to clients
  • Managing fee aspects of the client engagement and handling due diligence client take on procedures

The Individual

We are looking for skilled and enthusiastic professionals with the following:

  • Expertise in corporate tax matters and preferably some experience of working with SME clients
  • A relevant qualification is desirable, this may be ATT, CTA, or CA, but is not essential if you have relevant experience
  • Be able to identify and advise on tax issues arising as part of the compliance process
  • Be enthusiastic in applying existing knowledge and learning new skills through providing ad hoc advisory work to clients
  • A good understanding of the tax legislation and the ability to explain technical issues to clients and colleagues
  • Experience of reviewing work and coaching staff
  • Business development skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills and IT skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to take responsibility
  • Motivated and committed to continuously developing skills
  • Effective time manager who can organise and delegate work efficiently to deliver on time and in budget

Basic Salary: £Competitive

Company Pension: 4% employer contribution and 4% employee contribution
