About the job

Rutherford Cross, part of the Livingston James Group, is a specialist Senior Finance recruitment firm focusing exclusively on the attraction and selection of Qualified Accountancy & Finance professionals for our clients based across Scotland from our offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Launched in late 2013, Rutherford Cross experienced significant year-on-year growth up until 2020 when the pandemic arrived, and the world changed forever. During the last 2 years, we have focused on our purpose and the aligning our strategy to the new market that has emerged. Our purpose is to support our Clients, Candidates and Colleagues to realise their potential. We are now set to grow rapidly again and are hugely excited about helping shape the future of the recruitment industry in Scotland. We’re here to place the right people in the right organisation. It starts with having the right people in ours.

We currently have a vacancy for a CFO Services Consultant to work from our Glasgow office and specialise in interim and contract vacancies for our clients across the West of Scotland. We are open to applications from both existing Recruitment Consultants and those not currently working in Recruitment but who are interested in finding out more. Our existing team of Consultants come from a variety of backgrounds including Retail, Leisure, Sales, Property, Banking or Accountancy who have successfully changed the direction of their career.

Why join Rutherford Cross?

We are fortunate to work with some of the best people and organisations in Scotland and beyond. However, that has not happened by chance. We have forged long-lasting relationships that have been the foundation of our business in the past and into the future. You only need to take a brief look at our website (www.rutherfordcross.com) to see the range of organisations that put their trust in us to support them in attracting the people who become the foundation of their success. We have an intimate understanding of how business operates at the highest level and that gives us our edge in the recruitment marketplace.

We measure our success against our purpose and the impact of the work we do. We have robust feedback loops to our clients and candidate to ensure the quality of our work, but the biggest testament to our success is the number of people who recommend us to their networks and return to us time after time to support them.

Our team has an in-depth understanding of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) community and what it takes to become a finance leader. From the first step when qualifying as an accountant, we help advise people at every stage of their accountancy career journey, on whatever route they wish to take. In conjunction with our Livingston James Executive Search practice, we hold a unique position in the Scottish marketplace when helping those individuals secure Executive and Non-Exec opportunities.

We create partnerships that enable us to evolve and remain central to the communities we serve. For example, we have been a Career Partner of ICAS every year since 2017 (and will be present at this year’s ICAS Admissions Ceremony in Edinburgh), a member of the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (ENEI) and have been proud to support dozens of charities throughout our journey.

What’s it like to work at Rutherford Cross?

At Rutherford Cross, we believe that we’re more than the sum of our parts and our success is delivered through a team of people working together. To achieve that, we don’t have outdated job titles, KPI structures, or schedule rafts of internal meetings with no purpose other than for meeting’s sake.

Our focus is on helping you be the best version of yourself and supporting your own career journey. Our learning and development programme is tailored to you, whether that is pursuing additional qualifications or skills, running networking events, partnering with a mentor, or seeking your first NED or Trustee position.

We are really serious about what we do as our role is to advise people to make hugely important decisions for themselves and their organisations. As such, we want people who are serious about their own careers, striving to develop their skills and who view excellence as a journey rather than a destination. We also prioritise wellbeing and having fun, and in an industry where pressure and workloads can be high, we always try to give our team the best level of support we can.

Across the Livingston James Group, each individual is part of one of our “Champions” teams; Wellness, Fundraising, Volunteering and Social. These teams help us deliver on our core values, create a truly inclusive working culture and keep us focused on what is important to each of us such as charity commitments, personal wellbeing, or cocktails on a Friday afternoon!

A key part of our promise to support what is important to you is two paid CSR days a year to follow whatever commitments they wish. In addition, everyone nominates a preferred charity (not from a list, but your personal choice) on which the company donates a percentage of group profits annually. Supporting our communities is fundamental to our group purpose and we want to do our best to enable you to support those causes closest to your heart.

What’s on offer at Rutherford Cross?

We believe in a reward structure that enables our team to be truly consultative in their roles rather than chasing short term targets. As such, we offer a higher base salary and car allowance than the vast majority of recruitment firms, along with a bonus structure that rewards in the upper quartile of the industry as a whole. Our consultant productivity leads the market, so you can fully expect the financial rewards to match your exceptional performance. We also offer each employee the opportunity to log off at 12.30pm every Friday if they are in a position to do so. Our collective productivity has remained the same if not better since adopting the 4.5 day working week since summer 2021.

On joining, you will receive a laptop and fully paid mobile phone. We have an employer contributory pension, life assurance scheme, and give you an extra day holiday for each year of service. All expenses are covered for travel, parking and entertaining too of course. And there are lots of other rewards, incentives and away days too numerous to list, along with the occasional gifts we like to send our team just to say thanks!

We are now moving back into working from our two fantastic City Centre offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh, however, we operate a flexible working pattern which will enable you to be as productive as possible while meeting all your personal commitments.

What to do next?

If you are an experienced recruiter looking for a change, graduate or sportsperson seeking your first role in business or a successful professional in another specialism intrigued by what the industry can offer, then I am keen to speak with you.

This is an opportunity to impact careers, organisations and communities for the better and at Rutherford Cross that remains our singular purpose. If that resonates with you, we would love you to come on the journey with us.
