Rutherford Cross are delighted to be working exclusively in partnership with Intergen to recruit a high calibre Tax Senior Associate to be based in their Edinburgh city centre offices.  InterGen is a global power generation firm with 11 power plants representing a total generation capacity of 7,686 MW. The company also operates three compression facilities, one gas pipeline and a wind farm. InterGen’s facilities are located in the UK, the Netherlands, Mexico and Australia.

 

InterGen is jointly owned by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and China Huaneng Group/Guangdong Yudean Group.

 

Reporting to the Tax Director, this is a wide ranging and highly visible role involving interaction with the UK Management Team, Finance (both UK and US), HMRC and the external auditors.

 

Key to the role is the delivery of high quality tax information to both internal and external stakeholders; the maintenance of a strong control environment; and providing technical tax expertise as required by the business (e.g. transactions, new contracts, etc.).

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

  • Management of the UK group tax compliance process. Responsible for timely and accurate submissions to HMRC in respect of all corporation tax and VAT matters
  • Ensuring the relevant UK companies establish, monitor and maintain appropriate tax accounting arrangements to enable the completion of accurate tax returns and a “clean” Senior Accounting Officer Certification
  • Assisting in periodic and annual production of current and deferred tax numbers and disclosures for financial statements under both UK and US GAAP
  • Liaising with HMRC and advisors as required in order to manage HMRC relationship with a view to maintaining current “low risk” status
  • Maintenance of tax compliance calendar; risks and opportunities register and monthly status report for Corporate Tax
  • Responsibility for tax assumptions and logic in models used for business planning purposes

To meet these challenges, you will be an experienced tax professional (CA/CTA qualified), either seeking your first move from the profession or currently operating in a similar role in industry.

 

Specific experience, skills and knowledge include:

 

  • Strong UK tax technical knowledge and motivation to keep up to date with changes in standards and regulation
  • Practical IFRS and US GAAP experience (FIN 18, FIN 48, FAS 109)
  • Experience of SAO compliance best practice
  • Understanding of thin capitalisation, transfer pricing, controlled foreign companies and worldwide debt cap issues and documentation requirements
  • Good working knowledge of Alphatax and Excel software
  • Proven track record of interpreting complex tax issues
  • Organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to represent team within broader finance function
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstration of commitment to achievement of deadlines & results
