Rutherford Cross is delighted to be selected as the search partner for The Keil Centre as they appoint the crucial role of Financial Controller.

The Keil Centre is an employee-owned, small and successful psychology consultancy with offices in Edinburgh and Australia. The consultancy has been in business for over 40 years, working with clients across the globe, and with a strong reputation for offering high-quality, evidence-based solutions with sustainable impact. The Keil Centre currently employ 23 people – 11 professional fee-earning consultancy staff and 12 support team members.

The Keil Centre's financial operations require an experienced Financial Controller who is able to both get ‘stuck in’ with the everyday and also provide strategic support to the Board on financial matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and report on the company’s day-to-day financial operations taking responsibility for all financial data across two businesses within SAGE
  • Monthly and annual accounting, invoicing and reporting for both UK (head office) and Australia-based businesses
  • Authorise payments, monitor the purchase ledger, raise sales invoices and manage credit control
  • Process journals, accruals and prepayments including accrued and deferred income
  • Prepare monthly Management accounts and financial reports for the Board and the wider business, including fees analysis to support performance management and decision making
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts, carry out balance sheet reconciliations and manage the annual budgeting process
  • Manage cash, payroll processing, VAT returns and all matters relating to audit & tax
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures and ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported
  • Coach and mentor the Part-Time Finance Officer
  • Provide financial analysis and support to the Board as required, including investment appraisals, pricing decisions and cost analysis
  • Provide advice to the Board on tax, pensions and other financial matters including liaising with accountants and external advisors

 

Technical Knowledge & Skills: Essential for the Role

  • In-depth understanding of and ability to lead on all financial aspects of business operations
  • Exceptional day-to-day financial management skills
  • Ability to provide higher-level and more strategic advice and support to the Board on financial matters and liaise with external advisors when required
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of accounting systems, such as SAGE Line 50
  • Thorough understanding of PAYE, payroll processing and VAT
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Excel; competent user of other Microsoft applications, such as Word, Outlook and Teams

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in accounting, or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar role
