The University of Glasgow is an industry leader ranked in the top 1% of universities globally. Established in 1451, Britain’s fourth oldest university currently employs more than 6,000 individuals and is home to students from over 140 countries. It is a member of Britain’s leading Russell Group of universities and carries a global reputation. The father of free market economics Adam Smith and the famous physicist Lord Kelvin are counted among its alumni.
The University operates with a budget of over £500m and is currently in a period of rapid expansion, which includes ambitious plans for redeveloping its campus in the West End of Glasgow. The University officially took over the former Western Infirmary site in April 2016 – a major step in the proposed £1 billion World Changing Campus programme, the largest expansion of facilities undertaken by the University since it moved to its Gilmorehill campus in 1870.
These newly-created roles sit within the College of Science and Engineering. The College is comprised of 7 academic schools, and sits at the forefront of addressing science and engineering challenges that face the world in the twenty-first century. It is a centre of world leading research, involved in developing new technologies that impact the global economy and tackle societal problems. The College has over 5,000 undergraduates and more than 600 research postgraduate students, with 280 teaching and research staff. Annual research income is now above £30m, and 90% of its research was ranked as world-class and internationally excellent in 2014.
The College’s research and commercial business portfolio has a total value of almost £160m spread across over 900 active research projects, which have an average value in excess of 150K. Around 500 individual grant applications are processed in a year with a potential value of over £100m.
These roles are an excellent opportunity for part- and fully-qualified professionals to support diverse, often multi-year project work from inception to completion. The role holders will be involved in costing and pricing applications, monthly monitoring of research funding spending, risk management and post-project financial analysis. The individuals will work with a variety of stakeholders and will therefore have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
