VAT Director/Senior Manager

Glasgow or Edinburgh

£70-£90K

Our client is a leading Top 10 International Firm with an enviable client list comprised of listed businesses, large public sector bodies and leading privately owned companies.  Due to continued success the Scottish practice is seeking to recruit a senior VAT professional to lead the service line.  Based in either the Glasgow or Edinburgh office, the VAT Director or Senior Manager play a significant role in supporting the Partners with the management of their client portfolio and act as a client relationship point of contact for significant clients.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking Strategic Reviews and related assignments for key clients
  • Networking, business development and facilitating pitches
  • VAT planning and resolution of complex VAT issues
  • Advising on ad hoc projects
  • Profitably manage client portfolios
  • Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to on their clients
  • Commercial management of clients i.e. ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client/partner informed of overruns, negotiating additional fees where possible.
  • Plan staff assignments in order to give an appropriate spread of experience
  • Identify risk and technical matters, as well as selling opportunities, to the Partner, and acting on these accordingly.
  • Contribute to the tax group’s sales and marketing activities
  • Work cross-stream, introducing opportunities to other service linesGroup management:
  • Counsel, appraise, develop and motivate staff as appropriateCommunication and representation
  • Liaise with Tax Authorities
  • Act as a liaison between the client and other service lines and tax specialisms within the firm
  • Represents Tax on matters where appropriate
  • Consult with colleagues and Partners on technical and risk matters.
  • Act as a role model for the firm, both externally and internally

 

This is an important senior role and requires an individual with strong VAT technical skills who can also influence at Board level both internally and externally.  Educated to degree level; and/or CTA and or ACA qualified or equivalent, you will be considered an expert in your field
