Description

Rutherford Cross are delighted to be retained by Dana Petroleum in Aberdeen to recruit a Senior Tax Advisor or Tax Advisor to join their in house tax team on a permanent basis.

The (Senior) Tax Advisor role requires a technically strong corporate tax professional who can work autonomously and with confidence to establish credibility from internal stakeholders. An up-to-date knowledge and practical experience in corporate tax is essential for this role.

Reporting to the Head of Tax & Treasury, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

 Strategic

  • Implementation of the Group’s taxation strategy as relevant to the UK
  • To help establish and formalise taxation processes and controls as relevant to the UK
  • Monitoring UK tax affairs
  • Management of the UK’s effective tax rate

 Relationships

  • Maintaining relationships with auditors and professional advisors
  • Provision of support to Finance, Legal, Commercial and Business in relation to material tax matters
  • To keep pace with legislative developments and assist in the representation of represent Dana’s views to Government bodies as appropriate
  • Maintaining relationships with UK tax authorities as appropriate
  • To attend and represent Dana at industry body meetings, for example UKOITC / OTAC

Tax Provisioning

  • Preparation/Review of UK monthly CT Effective Tax Rate calculation
  • Preparation/Review of UK tax monthly reforecasting
  • Preparation/Review of the UK PRT and CT quarterly true up provisions
  • Review of the monthly tax provision submissions from the countries
  • Preparation of statutory accounts tax provisions
  • Preparation of UK tax forecasting calculations for the Planning process
  • Liaison with the Group’s auditors on taxation matters
  • Assistance with Group budgeting and forecasting from a tax perspective

Tax Compliance

  • Completion of UK corporate and PRT tax returns
  • Calculation of UK tax payments / refunds and interest
  • Completion of monthly UK VAT return and management of payments/repayments
  • Support in relation to the management of relevant tax authority enquires
  • Preparation and submission of the annual Schedule 23 return
  • Preparation and submission of the annual EITI report
  • Preparation and filing of the EU Accounting Directive Extractive report

Tax Advisory

  • Tax optimisation of group financing and inter-company transactions
  • Provision of advice in respect of commercial documents
  • Identification and implementation of UK tax planning strategies
  • Review and monitoring of underlying financial systems, and identify improvements required to ensure the integrity of UK tax returns
  • Identification of and/or liaison with appropriate external advisors and agreement of appropriate fee arrangements
  • Provision of support to business in relation to strategic projects (e.g., acquisitions and divestments, commercial structuring of transactions, etc)
  • Support economics, business and planning teams in relation to modelling of UK  taxes

Customs

  • Review the monthly bills of discharge and carrying out the monthly checks
  • Actively working with the external customs agent / freight forwarder and PSCM / inventory management teams to monitor goods imported under our end-use authorisation, ensuring that the relevant requirements are met
  • Support in relation to relevant tax authority enquiries

Candidate Requirements:

  • Good working knowledge of the UK oil and gas tax regime in particular ring fence CT, SCT and petroleum revenue tax is essential
  • Knowledge of indirect tax (customs and VAT) is preferable but not essential as work with advisors in this area
  • A professional qualification
  • A strong corporate tax background
  • Commercial aptitude
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The Package on offer:

The role will pay a basic salary in line with experience in the region of £65,000 - £90,000, depending on experience, plus a bonus of up to 18% depending on performance.  The company will make 10% contributions to pension, with the option to salary sacrifice additional voluntary contributions.  Other benefits such as private healthcare for employee and family, life assurance and income protection are also on offer, in addition to a further cash plan on wellbeing spend, and shopping discounts.
