Description
Rutherford Cross is working in partnership with a multi-faceted, property-centric management business to appoint a Senior Management Accountant. The business has historically operated a ‘Joint Venture’ business model, whereby it typically makes acquisitions alongside a capital partner, and is then retained to manage and develop the relevant asset according to the agreed business plan.
The company is going through an exciting period of growth and most recently executed a new joint venture with each raising £200m of capital partner.
The purpose of the Senior Management Accountant role is to:
- Manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business
- Deliver efficient and effective financial reporting (internal and external)
- Financial support for the respective Divisions – optimize decision making
- Manage relationships with capital / debt partners
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will work closely with key contacts within the Division and will be expected to contribute to the shaping of the financial systems and processes of the business as it grows.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Day-to-day Financial Operations
- Leadership of accounting services function on a day-to-day basis
- Ledger operation (Sage) – work with relevant Business Unit to ensure correct posting
- Supplier & Sub-contractor processes and transactions – orders thru’ payment
- Cash / Treasury monitoring, projection / oversight in conjunction with (as relevant) business Divisions
- Bank operation
- Creditor management
- Funding utilisations
- Compliance: CIS / VAT
2. Reporting – Internal & External
- Collaborate, Interrogate, Pre-empt, Interpret, Communicate. Strategic Input / Direction
- Management Accounts – delivery per established Month-end procedure / timetable. Variance / interrogate / pre-empt / interpret / communicate
- Discharge compliance obligations
- Oversight / interrogation / verification of Property and SPV reporting by third-party service providers
- Monthly reporting – forward-looking / KPI / cash – significant input
- Debt relationship management
- Annual Accounts / Audit – prepare year-end accounts, lead and deliver audit process.
- Corporate Governance
3. Business Support
Working hand-in-hand with relevant Business divisions for:
- Budget / Reforecasting
- Modelling: Appraisal & diligence of Investment Opportunities and other strategic initiatives
- Ad hoc ongoing accounting support to the Divisions
- Transaction support, financial aspects of sale / purchase of assets or corporates
- Supporting Group FC / Group FD from time to time – corporate M&A, Ambassador Advisers, Other Strategic initiatives
- Ongoing liaison with / and direction of Advisers as necessary, eg Tax, VAT, Capital Allowances
4. Systems & Processes
- Integral in / help to shape and document as appropriate. The post-holder will ensure that effective practices and procedures are in place and complied with
- Reporting framework / Reporting templates: KPI etc
- Modelling templates – returns / projected cashflows etc
- Month-end processes and timetable
- IT / collaborative infrastructure
Skills, Experience, Qualifications:
- Proactive, persistent, willingness to roll up sleeves
- IT literate and high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent communicator at all levels, written and verbal
- Experience in preparation of month-end reporting
- Experience of year-end statutory reporting
- Appropriate Accounting qualification
- Able to take a strategic and commercial view and create solutions that are congruent with company strategy and funding metrics
- Able to work independently and as part of a core team
- Construction or house-building experience advantageous
