Rutherford Cross has been engaged to recruit a newly created position of Senior Cost Accountant, for a renowned international business based in the Falkirk area. This role would be perfectly suited to someone who is either qualified or qualified by experience but is familiar in cost accounting. The successful candidate will be joining a well-established organisation that can offer someone a broad role that will have them working with the operational and commercial teams as well as regular engagement with the senior management. In addition there wider opportunities in the business to progress and develop.
The Role:
The role reports to the Financial Controller and will see the successful individual responsible for the overall control, validation and reporting of cost across the business and subsequently compile this information into reports for the senior management team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review and assess current costing processes, identifying areas where efficiency can be increased
- Conduct performance and variance analysis
- Challenge cost movements and clearly communicate areas of improvement
- Introduce and simplify costing systems
- Liaise with the Manufacturing and Commercial teams to help prioritise projects and deadlines
- Reconciliation of Cost of Sales account
- Ensure that engineering and procurement teams are correctly recording and verifying all cost movements and when appropriate query any discrepancies
- Compile business reports
- Participate in ad hoc projects
The Candidate:
The position requires a high calibre individual who has strong interpersonal skills, is detail orientated and possesses excellent technical knowledge. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work in a dynamic environment whereby you are hands-on. A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:
- Qualified accountant or qualified with experience but has skills in cost accounting
- Strong technical foundation in accounting
- Confidence and strong interpersonal skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines and prioritise effectively
- Excellent IT skills in MS Excel
- Ability to work well in a team, but also capable of taking ownership for the delivery of specific tasks
- Ability to work across multiple areas within a business
