Specific expertise in the UK is in the identification and qualification of R&D claims, optimisation of R&D tax credits, Patent Box and acquisition of R&D grants.
The Candidate & Opportunity:
Due to continued growth and success, our client is looking to recruit a dynamic and ambitious tax practitioner. This is a client facing role which will demand a professional with the qualities of not only a technically competent tax advisor, but also a commercially minded business professional. The right candidate will have the opportunity to work with highly skilled and experienced engineers and scientists in the delivery of bespoke solutions to what is already a sizeable client portfolio, over 200 clients across a variety of industries.
Personal Characteristics / Experience:
- Professionally qualified and currently working with a reputable firm
- Demonstrable track record of success whether that be client-facing work or internal progression
- Enthusiastic and innovative tax practitioner with appropriate gravitas and professionalism to influence and communicate with all key stakeholders
- Track record and clear ability to develop business relationships and identify new opportunities
- An appropriate level of experience to be able to help build the tax/technical team in Scotland
- Ambitious and focused professional, looking for the opportunity to be a key figure in a fast-growing organisation
Qualifications & Skills
- Qualifications required CA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA or ATT/CTA
- Background in UK corporation tax compliance
- Experience of dealing with R&D Tax Relief or HMRC is preferable
- HMRC audit experience – either dealing with HMRC with respect to R&D tax relief claims or having worked at HMRC R&D specialist units
- Strong interest in applying the R&D concept to a wide range of industrial sectors is a must
- Keen interest in scientific or technological development
- Experience in optimising capital allowances would be an added advantage
- Excellent organisational skills, communication skills and IT skills are essential
- Team player and ability to work on own initiative
Key Responsibilities:
- First point of contact with clients
- Investigation and identification of qualifying R&D projects and draft of technical reports
- Participation in technical discussions with clients as well as with colleagues to optimise claims through interviewing key business decision makers and technical leads
- Prepare or review of R&D Tax Relief calculations, with support from technical colleagues, and the filing of the same with HMRC
- Providing support to R&D Tax Relief claims in the event of HMRC Audit/enquiries
