Description

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be partnering with a highly successful global manufacturing business on the outskirts of Glasgow to appoint a Project Accountant. This is a key role responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of project actuals and forecasted financial performance.

The Project Accountant will play a vital part in driving continuous cost improvement by providing robust financial challenge and scrutiny of both actual and forecasted costs. The role will deliver high-quality, reliable data and insightful financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning across the business.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with the Project Team to prepare the project baseline budget and reforecasts
  • Assess the Value of Work Done throughout the project lifecycle, proactively identify and address slippages, and escalate critical issues to management
  • Provide forecasted project revenue and margin data to support quarterly forecasts and the annual budgeting process
  • Conduct detailed cost variance and sensitivity analyses, highlighting opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies for the Project Manager
  • Ensure the accurate allocation of costs to cost accounts and work orders; review and verify the coding of requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, invoices, and variations; reconcile costs with the General Ledger and investigate variances as required
  • Prepare regular internal and external project financial reports for both management and customers
  • Support the preparation and follow-up of variation order requests and claims, assisting the Project Manager with the evaluation of changes as needed
  • Lead and contribute to project "lessons learned" sessions, providing valuable feedback to enhance future project delivery
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of detailed Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to support effective project planning
  • Carry out other duties and ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Financial Planning and Analysis Manager

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent analytical review skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Part qualified or qualified ACCA/CIMA
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Engineering is an advantage
  • Proven track record in a similar role
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP systems
