Description

A fantastic opportunity to be part of a diverse and intriguing business, generating circa £90m turnover, across multiple sites in Scotland. Reporting Directly to the CFO this newly created position will be critical in the finance functions mission to deliver effective strategic insight and operational support. The Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will lead the financial planning cycle, providing robust forecasting, variance analysis, and performance insights to support strategic decision-making. This role is pivotal in aligning financial plans with business goals and equipping decision-makers with clear, timely, and actionable intelligence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to a team of Senior Financial Analysts aligned to core business areas
  • Develop tools, reporting frameworks, and processes to enhance financial understanding and performance across the business
  • Ensure financial plans are aligned with goals and strategies
  • Drive the shift from manual, spreadsheet-based forecasting to a modern FP&A function with appropriate systems, rolling forecasts, and enhanced business intelligence
  • Work closely with academic and commercial departments to monitor and report on commercial, research, and teaching performance, considering the complexity and evolving nature of metrics
  • Contribute to the development of long-term financial planning aligned with the businesses evolving organisational strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • To be considered for this role you should have a Professional Accountancy qualification with membership of a UK recognised accounting professional body such as ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CPFA (SCQF Level 9)
  • Systems implementation and change experience would be beneficial
  • A strong technical capability
  • Advanced analytical and visualisation skills, including Excel and planning systems
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams
  • Ability to facilitate process reviews and deliver improvements
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong understanding of strategic planning and long-range modelling
