EMMS International is the Christian international healthcare charity that has been bringing health care to end hidden suffering since 1841. We work with partners in India, Malawi, Zambia and Nepal to improve health and healthcare, and we support respite for people in Scotland with serious illnesses.

We have undergone significant changes in recent years, embarking on a strategy that has sought to invest a significant part of our reserves in programmes and capacity development in order to increase the impact and reach of our work. As a result, we have brought compassionate, effective and sustainable healthcare to 730,000 poor and vulnerable people over the past five years.
Our strategy seeks to bring about lasting health improvements that not only improve healthcare and health outcomes, but that strengthens local and national health systems and tackle some of the underlying challenges that link poverty to poor health. Our strategy need the support that we can offer by providing palliative care, improving maternal and child health care and reducing the impact of disease. Over the next 5 years, we have set an ambitious target to reach a further 1 million people and train over 1000 essential health workers.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a technically sound accountant with the desire to add significant value to both the strategic and operational planning and decision-making process. You will contribute to the ongoing continuous improvement agenda within EMMS International. This includes: taking the lead for improving the quality of management information produced; identifying opportunities for efficiencies in internal systems and procedures; and evaluating potential benefits associated with a new finance system.

Job Description:
- Strategic Planning: Working alongside the CE to develop the strategic aims and objectives for the Charity, the Director of Finance & Operations has overall control and responsibility for all financial, IT and Property aspects of Charity strategy and is expected to present and analyse figures and results, implementing recommendations based on these findings, with a focus on sustainable growth.
- Budgeting, Management Information & Reporting: Working with the CE the post holder will lead the annual budgeting process and report timeously against it to CE, Managers and Board, analysing the results and recommending plans and actions to maximise the impact of the Charity.
- Programme Support: With other managers and CE collaborate on all fundraising initiatives to support planned programmes. Give advice and analysis on budgets, presenting maagement and financial reports speedily to support the work of other managers in planning and developing programmes that are appropriately and sustainably funded.
- People Management: lead, manage and develop the finance team including appraisal, mentoring and guiding as appropriate while providing leadership, advice and support to all staff particularly in areas of finance, IT and systems.
- Statutory Requirements: Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met and lead Data Protection across the Charity, including financial information, supporter databases, staff records and Hawthornbrae grantee medical information.
- Be responsible with the CE to lead and guide the spiritual life of the Charity
Candidate Profile:
Essential
- Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification.
- Commercially astute, articulate, technically strong, dynamic, insightful and influential leader with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
- Exceptional communication skills at all levels.
- Strong IT skills, always being ahead of new technologies.
- Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making.
- High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance.
- Energetic, highly motivated, with an enquiring mind and passion for the work of EMMS International, with a commitment to excellence and innovation in pursuit of increasing the impact of the Charity, growth and success.
- Ability to travel abroad approximately 6-9 weeks in any given year.

Christian Faith:
EMMS International is a non-denominational Christian organisation. It is an Occupational Requirement within the provisions of the Equality Act 2010 that the Director of Finance & Operations is a practising Christian, as in supporting the Christian ethos of EMMS International the role will involve regularly leading and contributing to team prayer meetings and other spiritual activities of a Christian nature
