Description

Our rapidly expanding client is seeking a qualified accountant to fulfil a key role in their Head Office finance team. The role manages a small team and business partners with commercial and operational teams across the business with a particular emphasis on stock accounting.

Specifically, this will involve:

  • Review and authorise daily stock gains & losses, investigate & highlight exceptional variances, monitor trends & reasons for variances
  • Ensure systems accurately reflects vehicle locations and stock holdings at all times
  • Ensure system accurately reflects depot stock holdings at all times
  • Reconcile reporting to nominal ledger on a monthly basis investigating discrepancies and making corrections as necessary
  • High / low margin reporting on a monthly basis investigate all high and low customer margin deliveries to ensure codas accuracy and revenue protection
  • Process month end journals for all stock transactions which do not interface automatically with the nominal ledger
  • Ensure all nominal stock accounts accurately reflect the depots’ stock holdings at month end
  • Produce summary reports on a monthly basis to highlight gains & losses trends and exceptional variances
  • Account for fuel card transactions including accruals for missing/incorrect invoices, reconciliation and verification of fuel card charges and monitoring of stock holdings
  • Review and monitor the company’s hedged transactions to ensure accurate and compliant accounting treatment and reporting
  • Review control systems to ensure HMRC compliance and reporting accuracy, investigate and follow up missing  / inaccurate return information and submit monthly return to HMRC
  • Support the business by providing robust analysis and management information on a weekly and monthly basis, ensuring that appropriate action plans are in place to mitigate any risks
  • Develop strong relationships with depot and regional management, ensuring that any issues are dealt with expediently, and that best practice processes are being adopted. Contribute to the development of those processes and identify improvements and actions
  • Support the internal audit function to ensure that all relevant findings are highlighted and actioned
  • Assist with the training and development of the Finance team
  • Ad hoc reporting or analysis as required including support for new business and acquisitions

To apply for this role, you will be a qualified accountant, ideally with 2-5 years post-qualification experience. You will possess previous experience in dealing with stock, preferably gained in a fast-paced, high volume/low margin business environment.

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant, ideally with 2-5 years’ PQE
  • Strong commercial and business acumen
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines & thrive under pressure
  • High level of organisational and time management skills to deliver robust, accurate financial data and information
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities for a number of stakeholders
  • Professional and credible with senior management
  • Ability to interact with influence and impact at all levels
  • Reliable and resilient with ability to thrive in a dynamic & changing environment
  • Effective and confident communication and presentation skills
