Rutherford Cross are delighted to be working on behalf of our client, a not for profit organisation, to source a VAT Analyst. The individual will play a key role in helping the organisation meet its VAT compliance obligations, both in respect of return filing as well as operational compliance. The VAT Analyst will provide support to the VAT manager in relation to analysis and implementation of strategic VAT decisions and special projects.
The role includes responsibility for ensuring the effective and efficient administration of endowments, investment funds and donations, including the provision of accurate and timely information to other teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsibility for the analysis of data and preparation of all relevant VAT returns for the client and its subsidiaries
- Preparation and filing of EC Sales List returns, Intrastat declarations
- Review of indirect tax compliance for operations in China and Singapore
- Updating VAT recovery percentages in line with the agreed method
- Reviewing income and expenditure and applying appropriate VAT coding
- Handling VAT queries
- Undertaking regular reviews of data integrity from a VAT perspective
- Supporting the VAT manager with HMRC enquiries, disclosures and other correspondence
- Playing a key role in the development and delivery of VAT training to staff as required
- Opportunity to be involved in special VAT projects
- Imports – handling import queries, undertaking a reconciliation of duty deferment statements and making payment of duty liability
- Monthly reporting on investments and liaising with appointed investment managers
- Provision of monthly reporting on Endowments
- Reviewing terms relating to new endowment and donation projects
- Supporting staff in the process of endowment budgeting
- Handling endowment queries
- Provision of endowments training for staff
- Carrying out balance sheet reconciliations for endowments, investments and hardship funds
- Maintain technical knowledge (and meeting CPD requirements) by attending educational workshops and training, reviewing technical publications and keeping up to date on current developments relevant to the role
Knowledge
Essential:
- Candidates must have either a minimum of five years’ relevant work experience in a similar role or hold a relevant tax professional qualification (i.e. CTA qualified)
- Sound knowledge and understanding of HMRC relating to VAT
- Demonstrable experience of financial accounting processes in a relevant role
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Experience
Essential:
- Experience of managing VAT processes and preparation of VAT returns and other HMRC filings
- Experience of financial accounting processes in a complex financial environment either in a similar role or in professional practice
- Experience in handling and analysing large data sets and communicating results
- Demonstrable experience of presenting and explaining financial and tax data to both financial and non-financial colleagues such that it is fully understood
- Experience of VAT partial exemption rules
