M2 Group Ltd (trading as Miller Developments) is one of the UK’s leading land promotion and property development companies. With a history going back more than 60 years, Miller Developments has extensive experience across every sector of the UK property market.

Since becoming wholly management owned in 2018, Miller Developments is able to act quickly and decisively at all stages of the development process.

The business currently controls over 1,100 acres of land throughout the UK, approximately 50% of which has now been successfully allocated for development. Its current land and development portfolio spans the UK and includes major large scale development projects as well as regional landholdings to support its land trading activities.

The role of Financial Controller, based in Glasgow, will be a key hire for Miller Developments. Reporting to the Managing Director of the business and working as part of a small and highly experienced team, the role will be involved in various aspects of a busy finance function and requires a candidate who is very hands-on in their approach. The role will manage all aspects of the finance function which includes the preparation of accounts, cashflow management, IT and System Management and tax and supplier payments/invoicing.

The position will require a professionally qualified candidate who has a proactive and commercial approach to financial management as well as being highly adept at managing cashflow closely and showing great attention to detail when reviewing financial paperwork/contracts.

 

A summary of some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Overall management of the company’s accounting function and finance team
  • Regular cashflow forecasting and analysis, providing regular cashflow updates to the Directors and the Board
  • Prepare monthly board papers, attending and presenting required financial information at the Board meeting
  • Identify system and process improvements, and implement and drive forward changes
  • Produce and submit statutory accounts for multiple entities
  • Submit VAT & CIS returns
  • Review funding agreements
  • Manage monthly drawdowns and balance payments for funding agreements
  • Produce sales invoices for land/property sales
  • Set up new companies
  • Ensure robust financial controls and risk management frameworks are in place
  • Carry out company secretarial duties

 

Experience/Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant with appropriate post qualification experience
  • A proven track record of success within a similar role
  • A driven and proactive individual who can work autonomously and is able to be involved in more hands-on finance tasks when required
  • Systems and process improvement orientated, experienced in fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Well developed cashflow forecasting and analysis ability
  • Ability to develop strong, mutually beneficial relationships across the business and with external advisors
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present at Board meetings
  • Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to address the impact of any technical, financial and legal regulation updates and standards
  • Experience of working within Property or a related sector would be highly advantageous although not essential
