The Role

Background to Opportunity

The Arnold Clark Group has grown significantly over the last 10 years adding various departments to its Head Office function. As Arnold Clark prepares for further growth, a requirement has been identified to create a new position, FP&A Accountant. The role will be part of a new FP&A Department and the post-holder will be responsible for partnering with operational and financial stakeholders across the business to develop more in-depth financial performance analysis across all geographical areas and franchises. The post-holder will play a central role in shaping the way Arnold Clark reviews its financial performance through the implementation of new KPIs. This position will sit within the Group Finance Department but will work closely with operational colleagues based across the franchise network. The individual will need advanced Excel skills and a willingness to develop the business’ use of Power BI. The FP&A Accountant will have one direct report, a graduate, providing exposure to people management.

Position Overview

The purpose of the role is to challenge existing budgeting and forecasting processes and provide high-level analysis which will support the business’ growth strategy. The FP&A Accountant will communicate with operational, sales and finance counterparts on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with stakeholders to provide meaningful analysis for business decisions Preparation of budgets and cashflows across all sites
  • Create advanced macros to manage large data files from different systems
  • Make use of the capabilities of Power BI
  • Analyse large volumes of data, develop reports and analyse these reports to create actions plans
  • Maintain and develop existing & new financial forecasting models
  • Ensure the accuracy of data and relevant reports
  • Provide proactive analysis to assist Senior Managers with business making decisions
  • Work with Senior Managers to develop analysis and systems skills
  • Developing high-level KPIs
  • Line manage and help in the development of a Graduate Accountant

The Individual

The position requires a qualified accountant, with experience in industry, ideally in a large, multi site business, where the individual has played a leading role in the development of group budgeting and forecasting. The ability to remain organised in a fast-moving, multi-tasking environment is essential. Equally as important is the confidence and ability to communicate effectively at all levels, as well as the focus and proactivity required to make sure that multiple priorities are managed.

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully Qualified Accountant with at least 2 years PQE working in an FP&A type role
  • Ambitious and dynamic with a track record of proactively challenging the status quo and driving change
  • Ability to adapt to a high paced working environment, prioritise and be flexible
  • Advanced Excel skills, building macros
  • Prior exposure to Power BI
  • Strong commercial understanding
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable analysing and interpreting complex data and drawing logical conclusions
  • Influencing skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines
  • Ability to work on own
