Finance Analyst Edinburgh £33,000 – £37,000

Rutherford Cross is seeking a newly qualified or part qualified accountant for the Cost Management team of one of Edinburgh’s leading retail banks. The bank is going through a significant period of growth and positive change and is bringing a previously outsourced part of the operations in house.

This role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to learn on the job and play an integral role between the finance function and the business. You will support the Cost Finance Manager and act as an interface between the Finance function and the Operational Service (Customer Services), Product and Central.  Providing support and challenge, ensuring the preparation of reliable and timely financial plans to support reporting, business planning and providing financial analysis for business cases and ad hoc papers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support – work with the cost owners across the business to understand their cost base and cost drivers.  Liaise with other Commercial Finance colleagues to understand the business impact of any changes in the cost base.  Working with Finance Manager to understand the overall cost base
  • Planning – support the Finance Manager to co-ordinate and process information from various sources to ensure that forecasting templates are populated within agreed timescales and to acceptable tolerances (including the development and maintenance of models)
  • Business Partnering - act as point of contact within finance for the operations team and all overhead owners.  You will be responsible for ensuring that business developments are shared with appropriate finance colleagues, and are financially robust. Through the analysis of data produce relevant MI for key stakeholders, helping drive key business decisions.
  • Challenge assumptions - through analysis of trends and other MI available, to help deliver realistic and balanced forecasts and budgets. Support the process to review outputs for accuracy
  • Scenario planning / desktop forecasts – working alongside the Product Decision Support Cost Managers, develop models to assist the business in measuring impact of changes to the budgeted P&L positions.   Working with other finance teams, update and reforecast changes to products and models to produce a monthly desktop forecast update for your line manager.
  • Regulatory Forecasting – minimal regulatory forecasting required in respect of this role
  • Financial Analysis – Using existing models and involvement in developing new models support the Decision Support Cost Manager to provide cost managers with financial information to assist in strategic and tactical decisions
  • Ad Hoc - provide ad hoc support across the Finance team as required
  • Commercial Support – support your line manager to review and provide challenge to business cases: covering aspects including pricing, tax implications and costs recharges (where applicable).

Our client is looking for an individual who has natural influencing skills, can use excel to a high standard and has a commercial acumen. Ideally you will come from a large organisational background and have the drive to develop meaningful relationships across the business. Although financial services experience can be useful, it is not necessary. We are seeking an individual who will find development and “stretch” in this role.
