Statutory Reporting Accountant

Our client is a well-established organisation based on the outskirts of Edinburgh who are looking to appoint a Statutory Reporting Accountant to their newly created European Shared Services function.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and support statutory monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities including completion of sub-ledger postings, reconciliations, postings to GL etc.
• Oversee and review General Ledger (GL) journal entry postings, maintenance and analysis, GL master data change requests, etc. to the statutory ledgers
• Supervise activities performed by general accountants
• Ensure compliance environment with Statutory audits, SOX, internal controls, local GAAP accounting policy and procedures
• Understand local European legislation and reporting requirements and ensure entries into statutory ledgers are accurate
• Provide periodic internal/external reports and support ad hoc data requests from Corporate Accounting, External Reporting, Statutory entities as required
• Production of annual financial statements for active EMEA companies, including managing the statutory audit process for European entities. Preparation of annual company files, backing up disclosed numbers in the financial statements
• Support the SSC accountants for tax accounting and returns.
• Actively participate in project to transition entities and countries into the European Finance SSC
• Evaluate and advise on options for each legal entity in relation to filing of less detailed accounts, group accounting and consolidation requirements, IFRS, local GAAP, local statutory filing requirements, audit exemptions, etc.
• Form strong relationships with key counterparts in European and North American SSCs in order to leverage knowledge and opportunities

Candidate Requirements:

• Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA)
• Strong technical accounting knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS
• Excellent communication skill both verbal and written
• Applicants with business proficiency in a European language - especially French or German would be desirable.
