Rutherford Cross is delighted to be retained to recruit a newly created Group Financial Controller with a highly acquisitive PE backed business based in Glasgow.
The Group Financial Controller is a newly created role which will be an integral part of the team in Glasgow and will report directly into the CEO. As the business continues to grow and diversify so too does the need of the individual as the role will progress and widen. The newly created Group Financial Controller role comes part of a newly created Finance function in Scotland. The role will have 4 direct reports. The strategy is to grow the business over the next few years with multiple new units planned, predominantly in Scotland and North England as the business has a strong name in this market.

The Group Financial Controller is a key member of the senior team and will be highly influential on the success of the newly created finance function in Scotland. The Group Financial Controller will take responsibility for the delivery of accurate and high-quality reporting and management information.
The main duties and responsibilities will involve:
Financial Planning
- Responsible for overseeing the annual budgeting process (with input from senior management and regional teams) which are aligned to Group strategy
- Presenting the budgets to the Board for approval as well as identifying both the risks and sensitivities in the forecasts.
- Support / Oversee on any tax structuring
Acquisition Support
Responsible for project managing the finance aspects of bringing in house of future acquisitions and reporting to the CFO.
- Due diligence of the current financial systems in place
- Assessing timelines for taking over the finance function of any future acquisitions
- Support a controlled process for bringing the finance reporting in-house and following methodology
- Identifying where additional resource is required to deliver on any in-house acquisitions.
Line / Team Management
Develop the finance team so that that they are appropriately motivated and developed and so that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standard
- Conduct regular supervisions and annual appraisals
- Set clear and measurable objectives in line with the Business Plan in order to give clarity and clear expectations.
- Ensure appropriate reporting framework is in place to enable work to be delegated to team whilst still maintaining effective oversight
- Identify development needs and ensuring appropriate training is provided
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and present the trading performance of the Group to the board on a quarterly basis.
- Responsible for overseeing the statutory audit and corporation tax compliance
- Production, review and oversight of monthly Management Accounts for Operating Companies with meaningful commentary to be shared with internal and external stakeholders.
Treasury Management
- Responsible for the operational banking of the Group including ensuring we meet our existing loan obligations and debt service
- Overseeing preparation of short term cash flows and managing liquidity.
Control Environment
Maintaining accurate accounting records which meet the requirements of auditors, HMRC (and any other government agencies where relevant).
- Ensuring there are robust processes for approving and controlling spend levels (including accounts payable and capex)
- Robust payroll controls and for overseeing the payroll process. This will also include reporting the key trends to the Senior Management
- Overseeing the IT systems analyst to make sure the Group have the necessary IT systems, software in place and that the Group is compliant under Data Protection.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Qualified accountant with appropriate post-qualification experience
- Experience in building, managing and developing a Finance team
- Experience of an acquisitive business environment (due diligence, acquisition integration, etc.) will be advantageous
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills combined with business
- acumen, pragmatism and a good sense of diplomacy
- Proven ability to build relationships at all levels
- Highly developed oral, written and presentation skills
- Motivated self-starter with a flexible working attitude
- Excellent IT skills including MS office and a good working knowledge of accounting systems
- Flexible approach to working hours in line with the needs of the business and happy to travel to other UK locations as required
Remuneration:
£70,000- £80,000 basic with additional benefits such as car allowance, pension etc.
