Background to the Current Opportunity
The opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to join our client’s business on a 12-month fixed term contract. The company has been going through very positive changes recently and as such there is scope for the role to become a permanent position and for the successful candidate to achieve significant progression within the business medium-term.
The role will be pivotal for the future success of the business and the individual will gain and develop a full understanding of the business and the markets it serves from both a financial and commercial standpoint. Training and knowledge transfer will be fully supported by the Chief Accountant and will allow the individual hands-on experience and interaction with a multitude of stakeholders at varying levels both internally and externally.
Preferred Candidate Background
The Accountant position requires a self-starting and competent finance professional who is keen on growing their experience and knowledge. It is also vital they would feel able to sign up to the company ethos of working seriously hard and being seriously competent – as well as having a bit of fun!
A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:
- Ideally Part Qualified/Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA) but would consider a suitably experienced candidate.
- Familiarity with cash books and bank reconciliations.
- Experience of the maintenance of sales, purchase and nominal ledgers.
- Journal postings.
- Understanding of accruals and prepayments.
- Familiarity with management accounts preparation, reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Understanding of variance analysis and standard costings.
- Strong experience of Excel is a must.
Job Description
- Assist in the monthly management accounts reporting process.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of financial processes and procedures.
- Support the procurement and accounts payable process.
- Support the accounts receivable process.
- Investigative work and problem solving.
- Ability to communicate to individuals across all levels of the business.
- Become proficient in all areas of the finance function, including:
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Processing accruals and prepayments
- Posting of journals
- Bank reconciliations
- Bank postings
- Purchase invoice processing
- Credit card postings and other operating expenses
Note the successful candidate will receive training in all aspects of practical accounting.
