Description

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be retained by a market leading construction firm in Oban to recruit a newly created Head of Finance role. It is envisaged that this role will progress into a Finance Director role in the short to medium term as the business continues to rapidly grow.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious Head of Finance to join a business with ambitious growth plans, where the appointed candidate will play a key role in its journey.

In addition, the business will provide a firm career platform with good opportunity for personal and professional development as well as the mandate to shape and define how the role evolves. It is envisaged that over time this role will develop and grow and therefore it is key that applicants are flexible and adaptable to those changes. There is a real possibility that this individual will have the opportunity to step up to Finance Director level in a period of time, once established and proving their ability along with business growth.

 

The main duties and responsibilities will involve:

 

  • Management responsibility for transaction processing teams including purchase / sales ledger and credit control as well as setting associated team performance targets
  • Responsibility for execution of the monthly payroll process ensuring compliance with all HMRC and other requirements
  • Draft, implement and monitor appropriate financial controls for the business
  • Creation, analysis and presentation of monthly management accounts and support to be provided to Managing Director/ Owner regarding other finance papers and presentations for operating board
  • Management of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly cashflow including forecasting, working capital management
  • Ensuring governance through monthly accounting checklists and reconciliations of all key accounts
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements (including Corporation tax, PAYE/RTI, VAT, Withholding Tax etc.). Also overseeing all filings and payments in line with the Construction Industry Scheme (‘CIS’)
  • Support of all relevant insurances for the business including buildings, fleet, plant etc
  • Preparation of budgets and quarterly forecasts as well as the monitoring and analysis of business performance against budgets and forecasts
  • Capital project appraisal and monitoring
  • Supporting other members of the finance team to maintain a range of financial, commercial and operational KPI's to ensure that commercial risks and opportunities are managed and to drive accountability for on-going performance against business and strategic objectives
  • Providing periodic transaction processing support to the finance function as may be necessary

 

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant with the relevant PQE
  • Strong technical experience
  • Comfortable preparing and presenting financial information to key stakeholders
  • Strong hands on experience
  • Strong statutory and monthly reporting experience
  • The ability to perform in a complex face paced environment
  • Strong systems/ERP experience/Excel experience
  • Working with a number of external parties including audit, tax, banking and insurance
  • Strong team management and people development experience
  • Exposure to Construction and Long-term contract environments is highly advantageous
