Originally established on the 24th May 1895 as a ‘Family Grocers, Tea, Wine & Spirit Merchants’ on South Street, the company is currently directed by the third and fourth generation of the Urquhart family. From its humble beginnings as a retailer, Gordon and MacPhail has grown to become a multiple award winning international distiller, bottler, and wholesaler of Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The iconic retail shop still thrives today and the company owns the Benromach Distillery in Forres.

Gordon & MacPhail currently turns over £24 million and employs 145 staff, 130 of whom are based in the Elgin area. The company is an integral part of the Moray community and the business recognises that attracting the best people is vital to its continued success.

The Opportunity

The Financial Controller reports to the Finance Director and is primarily responsible for the day to day running of the finance department. The new incumbent will ensure the company’s finance function is organised, efficient and as the business evolves; produce accurate, timely financial and management account information that facilitates informed decision making.

This role is critical to the overall finance team and will be highly visible both within the Elgin operation and across the broader business, providing the Financial Controller with a privileged position within the company. Alongside the provision of core financial information to the Senior Management Team, the Financial Controller will also interface heavily with commercial and operational teams and therefore have a direct impact on the future growth of the business.

Gordon & MacPhail represents an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, high calibre finance professional and exposes the successful individual to an exciting entrepreneurial company with genuine international reach.
