Description

Our retained client is a leading global manufacturer operating in 31 countries with a turnover in excess of £500m and over 5,000 employees. They possess an enviable customer base and have displayed impressive growth in recent years. The company is seeking a Financial Controller to be based in their primary manufacturing location in Dundee.

The Role

The main function of the role is to support the Manufacturing Director and provide leadership to the Dundee finance team, with a functional reporting line to the Group Financial Controller. The role is an integral part of the Dundee Senior Management Team which incorporates a number of functions including Engineering, Technology, Quality, Marketing and Purchasing.

The main duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Complete responsibility for finance for the factory
  • Day to day management of the finance department of four staff
  • Preparation of monthly accounts including commentary and performance analysis
  • Preparation of the budget and business plan
  • Preparation of financial forecasts
  • Development and enforcement of internal controls and corporate policies
  • Liaison with the Group Treasurer on cash and currency management
  • Support the UK and Ireland Financial Controller on tax, statutory accounting and legal matters
  • Assist the Global Manufacturing Financial Controller on divisional finance projects and cost control


The Candidate

The Financial Controller position incorporates a blend of accounting, commercial insight and team leadership requiring a high calibre individual who is strong interpersonally, self-motivated, flexible and possesses excellent business acumen. Experience in the manufacturing industry is highly desirable, especially in relation to supply chain and logistics. In addition, it is likely the individual will come from a large business background where they will be experienced in the reporting, commercial and management requirements of a complex, international company.

This role requires a professionally qualified accountant with strong operational and commercial finance experience. The individual must be capable of producing insightful management information coupled with developing robust working relationships with the Senior Management team. In particular, it is essential that the individual can provide sound financial guidance to aid decision making and possess sufficient gravitas to challenge current thinking.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • Graduate calibre with high academic achievement and relevant professional qualification
  • Ideally previous experience within a manufacturing environment, either current or in a previous role
  • Ideally prior experience of staff management and development
  • Strong proactive communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Well-developed commercial acumen
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong team player with flexible attitude to work priorities
