Tell us about your education and career prior to joining Rutherford Cross.

“After graduating with a degree in Management with Marketing, I started as a Sales and Marketing Manager to launch a brand-new restaurant and bar in Aberdeen. After launching the venue, I was promoted to Senior Sales Manager and moved to Newcastle to launch an additional site with the brand. Following on from this, I supported the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce membership team with onboarding new businesses and helping organise / host events during COP26 where I found my passion for sustainability. I was then offered the opportunity to work with a global recruitment business where I spent my first 2 years recruiting in the Transactional Finance space.”

What attracted you to a career in recruitment?

“I joined recruitment initially because I love helping people be the best version of themselves, and the consultancy side of the role was really intriguing to me. I always want to help people and enjoy finding solutions to any problems my clients and candidates are having, whether that involves helping with staff retention, providing them with an insight into the market or introducing them to a great candidate or their dream role.”

Why did you join Rutherford Cross?

“There were many factors that impacted my decision to join Rutherford Cross, the most significant one being the market presence of the brand. Rutherford Cross is a market leader in the Senior Finance space, and I wanted to join a business that was well known for the high-calibre candidates and clients they worked with. Last year, Livingston James Group was the first recruitment company in Scotland to make the move to employee ownership. In a market where a lot of businesses are concerned about staff engagement, I thought it was an interesting and bold move which also highlights the Group’s commitment to its employees.”

How would you describe working at Rutherford Cross and Livingston James Group in general?

“During the interview process, I met with several members of the leadership team, and it was clear to me that every single person in the business was led by purpose. Since joining the team, everyone I have met has wanted to help people realise their potential and impact lives and communities for the better –  it’s rare that a business focuses all its decisions on its purpose! Since joining, the team has been really supportive as I’ve made a move from Transactional Finance into working with part and newly qualified candidates. There is a wealth of knowledge available with some consultants having been in the industry for 20 years, so it’s been great learning from them as they are all approachable and willing to support.”

Outside of work what do you like to do?

“I have a Cocker Spaniel (called Sushi) and I very much enjoy exploring Scotland with her. I started my running journey this year and regularly participate in my local park run. I have more recently taken up longer-distance running, having completed my first half marathon in May for the charity Give Blood 4 Good to raise awareness for donating blood (which is a huge passion of mine). Having grown up in the hospitality industry, I still thoroughly enjoy exploring bars and restaurants in new cities.”
