The Recruitment Revolution

Rutherford Cross’ Laura Montgomery discusses her reasons for joining the wider Livingston James Group, and shares her thoughts on the future of the recruitment consultancy.

Recruitment is continually evolving.  Like many industries, it has for some time now faced disruption due to the digital revolution.  The rise of LinkedIn, and the resulting popularity of the internal recruitment team has meant that recruitment consultancies have had to evolve drastically, offering a far greater ‘value add’ service to their customers.

This ‘value add’ was a considerable factor in my joining Rutherford Cross, a part of the Livingston James Group.  As an owner-managed business, LJG is much better placed to react to customer need and evolve its offering accordingly, giving companies the advice and support that they are looking for – not just filling vacancies.

For me, recruitment is not just about generating revenue from identifying new hires, it’s also about providing long term value-add to the businesses and individuals you work with to help them realise both company strategy and personal potential.  These values are clearly reflected in the Livingston James Group approach, with each of the Group brands creating a local network where people can utilise other individuals’ skills and expertise – a network of information that people want to be part of.

In my opinion the standard business model of large recruitment companies in Scotland is no longer meeting expectations. Many rely on satellite offices to serve the Scottish market, without local strategic control.  This lack of strategic input has a substantial impact on the level of service provided to clients and candidates.

With only a few weeks under my belt at Rutherford Cross – which recently celebrated its 5th birthday –   I have already had the pleasure of meeting a handful of talented, high profile Chief Executives, who have shared their vision and ambitions for the companies they are running.  I am confident that Rutherford Cross will play a significant role in helping them achieve these ambitions, and I very much look forward to being a part of that.
